BKS Iyengar, Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar (14 December 1918 – 20 August 2014), also known as Guruji, would have been 100 years old on December 14, 2018. He is considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world. His studies began at the age of 8, with his teacher, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.
BKS Iyengar has practice and teachings brought props to yoga postures, to find optimal balance, firmness and flexibility. When in a state of alignment, we are able to refine our awareness in present moment to penetrate deeper into layers to soul or self.
Iyengar Yoga is a refined art and science and teaches us to take time to be in the body to receive the many rewards: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. With emphasis on alignment in the body we gain knowledge beyond the academic and into the inner and outer realms of our world. Iyengar Yoga reminds us to seek to understand ourselves and, therefore, humanity, on a compassionate level.
BKS Iyengar dedicated his life yoga teaching and we are so thankful for the immense efforts it took for him to share yoga with world.
